 General Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing problems trying to access our databases from off-campus, please check the following:

  • Only currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff may access these database resources from off campus due to licensing restrictions.  If you are not one of the above, you are welcome to use these database resources in our library, but we cannot grant off-campus access.
  • Have you activated your LLCC account?  If not, please go to WebAdvisor to activate your LLCC account.  WebAdvisor will open in a new browser window.  If you need help activating your LLCC account, please contact the ITS HelpDesk at 786-2555.
  • Are you entering your LLCC user ID and password correctly?  Your LLCC User ID and Password are the same for your LLCC email account, WebAdvisor, Blackboard, MyLLCC Portal, and campus-based network resources.  Make sure "Caps Lock" is OFF on your keyboard before you start typing in your LLCC UserID and Password.
  • Is your browser set to accept cookies?  We use "session cookies" which are deleted at the end of your session and are NOT saved on your computer.  You must allow us to set a cookie to be able to log in and use our databases.  To set or check your cookie settings:
    • Netscape (version 6 or greater):  Click Edit -> Preferences. Click the small "+" sign next to Privacy & Security and click on the word "Cookies." Select "Enable All Cookies" and click OK.
    • Netscape (previous versions):  Click Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced. Choose "Accept All Cookies" and click OK.
    • Internet Explorer version 5:  Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Security. Click the "Custom Level" button. Scroll down to the "Cookies" setting and select "Enable."
    • Internet Explorer version 6:  Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy. Click the "Advanced" button. Select "Accept" under "First Party Cookies" and "Third Party Cookies." Click next to "Always allow session cookies" so there is a checkmark in the box, then click "OK."
  • Is Javascript turned on? (Javascript is usually enabled by default, but some users turn it off.)
    • Netscape: Click Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced. Select "Enable Javascript".
    • Internet Explorer: Click Tools -> Internet Options -> Security. Click the "Custom Level" button. Scroll down to the Scripting settings and select "Enable" for all options listed under Scripting.
    • Firefox: Click Tools -> Options -> Content. Check "Enable Javascript" box.
  • Are you using AOL?  There are known problems with using the AOL browser. You can use AOL to connect to the Internet, but once connected use either Netscape or Internet Explorer to connect to our databases.
  • Do you have a personal firewall installed on your PC?  Personal firewalls can sometimes cause problems with  our proxy. Temporarily disable the firewall and see if that allows you to connect properly.
  • You click on a database but nothing happens:  All of our databases open in new browser windows.  If you are using a pop-up blocker, you will need to allow pop-up windows for this session.
  • You cannot login after clicking one of the database links:  We use a proxy service to enable off-campus access to our databases.  Some internet service providers do not allow pass-through proxying.  If you cannot login using the database links, please use this URL for off-campus database access:  https://login.er.llcc.edu.
  • You are using the login and passwords from the printed sheet you got from the Library but they don't work when you try to login:  You must use your LLCC UserID and password to access these resources.  The information on the printed sheet from the Library will not work.
