LLCC offers two courses that provide students an opportunity to study abroad in Belize.

Biological Field Studies – BIO 209

This trip provides an opportunity to hike through the rain forest, explore Mayan ruins, and discover new species. Experience firsthand one of the most unique biomes on the planet.

Marine Biology – BIO 208

A once in a lifetime adventure exploring the Belize Barrier Reef, home to hundreds of species of tropical fish, thousands of species of marine invertebrates and located only half a mile from the tranquil beaches in the small fishing village of Hopkins.

About Belize

Located on the Caribbean coast of Central America between Mexico and Guatemala, Belize is one of the most ecologically and culturally diverse areas of the world. Belize boasts the longest barrier reef in the northern hemisphere with a lush tropical rain forest, and exotic tropical flora and fauna. More than 4,000 different species of native flowering plants are found within its borders and more than 70 percent of the country is under some form of forest cover. Belize is excellent for bird-watching with more than 530 species.

The ethnic diversity represented in Belize ranges from Creole and Anglo-European to Mestizo and Garifuna to Mayan and Middle Eastern. English is the official language while other spoken languages include Spanish, Creole, German, Mayan and Garifuna. Although Belize became an independent nation in 1981, the country has a rich history in its many ancient Mayan sites.
