Employment and education:
Jamie is LLCC’s director of community education. After completing her associate degree from LLCC, she continued her education at the University of Illinois-Springfield where she earned her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees. While at UIS, Jamie had a non-profit internship which led her to land a job in the non-profit sector for about 14 years.
She says, “Its like my life came full circle. I started to develop my career here as a student and now I am honored to get the opportunity to return as a working professional at LLCC.”
How has Lincoln Land Community College impacted your life?
Little did I know at the time, but choosing LLCC would end up being one of the best decisions of my life. I graduated with zero student loans from LLCC. I was able to complete core courses and get started on the path to my career with a lot of guidance from LLCC. Making the LLCC choice was by far one of the best decisions of my life!
What is your greatest accomplishment?
In my family, I was the first to graduate from high school, let alone college. My sites were set high and therefore I achieved my master’s degree in public administration in 2010. Thus far, this has been a great accomplishment for me. Yet, I have no doubt there will be more in the future.
Has Lincoln Land been a part of your family tradition?
I have just recruited my cousin to attend LLCC. She started in fall 2016 and has already signed up for the next semester. She will be the second person in our family to go to college behind me. It is very important to me to see her succeed!
What did you like about LLCC or what is your favorite LLCC memory?
I like that I was able to take 90% of my classes right there in Jacksonville, while working full time. This allowed me to accomplish a lot more and save money while living at home.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
I received the 40 Under 40 award from the Springfield Business Journal and was a finalist in the Legacy Awards from the State Journal-Register in the category of Entrepreneur.
