Appointments

Writing Center specialists are available to work with you by appointment on any writing assignment for any class at the college as well as scholarship letters, college application materials and similar documents.

In-person or online

LLCC Writing Center appointments are available in person and online using Microsoft Teams.

To schedule, call the Writing Center, 217-786-2341, or stop by. The Writing Center is located in Sangamon Hall, lower level of the library.

Students may email the Writing Center to set up an appointment; however, it is more efficient to call during regular hours.

Appointments are scheduled with a writing specialist or faculty consultant for 30-minute sessions. Additional time may be possible based on availability.  See Writing Center policies for more information.

Online meetings take place on Teams. When an online appointment is scheduled, an email confirmation is sent with the link to the Teams meeting.

Maximize your writing center experience

Listed below are tips to help you maximize your scheduled appointment. You should also be aware of Writing Center policies for scheduling, late arrivals and cancellations.

Before your appointment: Prepare

  • You have signed up for a 30-minute individual appointment.
  • Arrive on time. If you are more than 5 minutes late and someone else is waiting, your slot will be given to that person.
  • Upon receipt of your email confirmation, send a copy of the assignment instructions, any work you have completed for it and your instructor's evaluation rubric.
  • If you are revising, send any feedback you have received from your instructor.

During your appointment: Communicate

  • Communicate your primary concerns to the consultant.
  • Take notes.
  • Don't hesitate to ask questions if you need further clarification from the consultant.
  • Add your own ideas during the conversation. You are the author of this assignment; consequently, take an active role during your visit.

After your appointment: Implement

  • Look over the notes you took and apply that feedback to your draft or version.
  • Allow enough time before your instructor's assignment deadline to return to the Center for further discussion of  your revised copy.

Brainfuse

Students who can’t visit the Writing Center during operating hours may want to take advantage of Brainfuse, a 24-hour online service that also offers professional feedback on writing and tutoring in a wide variety of subjects. Brainfuse is accessible via Canvas.
