Dual credit student/parent information

Dual credit courses are offered through Lincoln Land Community College’s partnership with area in-district high schools to juniors and seniors. Dual credit courses are of the same high-quality, cover the same content, and have the same objectives as courses offered on LLCC’s campus or outreach centers. Dual credit courses are taught at the high school by LLCC approved high school teachers as students are earning high school and college credits at the same time.
 

  • LLCC currently does not charge tuition for dual credit courses. High schools may have a small charge for the dual credit course.

  • Students who take college-level courses while in high school learn the rigor and adapt easily to college curriculum.

  • Students who take dual credit courses in high school get a head start on their college education and can reduce the cost of tuition when enrolling in a college or university.

  • LLCC dual credit is posted as college credit on an official LLCC transcript.

  • Students must enroll as LLCC students and a college transcript will be generated.

  • Students will be subject to all LLCC placement, enrolling, grading, and records policies and procedures.

  • Students are expected to complete the required coursework and will be evaluated based on course requirements.

  • Students must follow the enrollment and withdraw deadlines set by LLCC.

  • Dual credit grades will be posted to your LLCC college transcript. College earned GPA may be used as a decision criterion for awarding scholarships or determining acceptance into special college programs.

  • High school students who are qualified to take college-level courses and meet the enrollment criteria are eligible to participate in the dual credit program.

  • Students must be able to complete college level course work and have adequate time to devote to studying.

  • Typically, students are high school juniors or seniors at the time the term begins. Students who are under 16 will need to complete a special form to register.

  • Students must meet all LLCC placement policies. Students enrolling in math or composition courses must have an ACT score of 21 or above in English and a 22 or above in math and reading; have an SAT score of 480 or above in verbal (writing/reading) and 530 or above in math; or must achieve the appropriate LLCC placement score. Some sciences have additional requirements.

  • Students wishing to drop/withdraw from a class must notify their instructor/guidance counselor or outreach center director to drop the class on or before the deadline. If a student does not drop the class before the “drop date” student will be withdrawn from the course. A “W” for withdraw will appear on the student’s college transcript. A “W” on a college transcript may impact future college financial aid. College earned GPA may be used as a decision criterion for awarding scholarships or determining acceptance into special college programs.

Students desiring to enroll in any course with established prerequisites in reading, English and/or mathematics will be assessed in the relevant subject area(s).

  • Composition I (EGL 101)-High school unweighted GPA of 2.7 or higher with transcript that reflects complete sophomore year or beyond, an ACT score of 18 or higher in the area of English or an SAT score of 477 or higher in the area of English/reading/writing (ERW).

  • Composition II (EGL 102)-Successful completion of Composition I (EGL 101) with a minimum grade of C, which must be completed prior to taking this course.

  • College Algebra (MAT 113)-High school unweighted GPA of 3.2 or higher with transcript that reflects complete sophomore year or beyond, and ACT score of 22 or higher in the area of mathematics or an SAT score of 530 or higher in the area of mathematics.

  • Trigonometry (MAT 120)-Completion of College Algebra (MAT 113) with a C or higher, an ACT score of 23 or higher in the area of mathematics or an SAT score of 560 or higher in the area of mathematics.

  • Calculus (MAT 131)-An ACT score of 25 or higher in the area of mathematics, or an SAT score of 600 or higher in the area of mathematics

  • Statistics (MAT 141)-High school unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher with transcript that reflects complete sophomore year or beyond, an ACT score of 21 or higher in the area of mathematics or an SAT score of 520 or higher in the area of mathematics.

Appropriate alternative test procedures can be arranged for any student with a documented physical or learning disability.

Students are allowed to retake one of the placement tests or a portion thereof on the recommendation of an LLCC academic advisor, counselor, outreach center executive director or department dean.
