LLCC Community Education presents “History Cooks” at Lincoln Home

Weekly culinary demonstrations

SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College Community Education is again partnering with the Lincoln Home National Historic Site and Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau this summer to present “History Cooks,” a series of free cooking and baking demonstrations of dishes based on favorite foods of U.S. Presidents.

All programs, with the exception of May 31, will be on Fridays at noon at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. Attendees will receive a small sample of the item prepared and a souvenir recipe card so they can re-create the dishes at home.

The lineup includes:  

May 31, 10 a.m., Downtown Springfield Farmers Market: “James Monroe” – Spoon Bread – Chef Michael Higgins, owner and executive chef of Maldaner’s Restaurant.

June 6: “Teddy Roosevelt” – Fried Chicken and Sand Tarts – Chef Ty Bergman, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor.

June 13: “Harry Truman” – Ozark Pudding – Chef David Radwine, former general manager and executive chef at the Sangamo Club, and LLCC Community Education culinary instructor.

June 20: “John F. Kennedy” – Chef Howard Seidel, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor.

June 27: “Ronald Reagan” – Monkey Bread – Charlyn Ware, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor.
                          
July 4: “George Washington” – Chef Kevin Sullivan, LLCC Community Education culinary instructor.

July 11: “Barack Obama” – Chef Lakesha Jackson, LLCC Community Education culinary instructor.

July 18: “Dwight Eisenhower” – Chef Channing Fullaway-Johnson, LLCC Community Education culinary coordinator.

July 25: “John Adams” – Chef Stephanie Warren, LLCC adjunct culinary instructor.

Aug. 1: “Thomas Jefferson” – Chef JoJo Solomon, partner and executive chef of Joseph’s Fine Cuisine.
