LLCC Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society earns regional recognition

SPRINGFIELD — The Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter at Lincoln Land Community College received both chapter and individual recognition during the PTK Regional Conference and Honors Institute convention, May 31-June 1, on LLCC’s Springfield campus.

LLCC’s Alpha Epsilon Kappa chapter of PTK hosted this year’s convention and was honored as a Gold Star Chapter for maintaining its Five Star Chapter status for 11 consecutive years. Gold Star is the highest level of achievement a chapter can earn. The chapter was also recognized as an Outstanding Chapter, received second place in the Yearbook Competition, Honors in Action Project Award and College Project Award. The LLCC chapter was also recognized for individual member accomplishments, including Olivia Marchizza of Auburn, Outstanding Chapter Award; Isaac Barrett of Sherman, Leader of Distinction; Lexie Ebersohl of Petersburg, Spirit Award and Dr. Gillian Bauer of Springfield, Horizon Award for Advisors and Most Distinguished Chapter Advisor.

LLCC officers in attendance included Barrett, Ebersohl, Marchizza, Braden Nicoll and Hannah Shoemaker of Springfield, Farren Ackerman and Zorah Austin of Virden, Alexa Maher of Auburn, Mikah Ribble of Franklin and Jessica Gibson of Pleasant Plains.

LLCC’s PTK Chapter is advised by Dr. Gillian Bauer, professor of English, and Ryan Roberts, professor/librarian. The purpose of LLCC’s PTK chapter is to recognize and encourage scholarship, develop leadership, cultivate fellowship and promote service to the community and LLCC. Students are eligible to join PTK if they have completed 12 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
